PRESS RELEASE

Decrease in loutish behaviour in North Down Welcomed - Cree

Ulster Unionist MLA and Policing Board member Leslie Cree has welcomed the decrease in the number of assaults and incidents of anti-social behaviour and criminal damage in North Down.

Mr. Cree said, "I am pleased to see that loutish behaviour in North Down has decreased. I welcome the fact that the police are committed to problem-solving and recognise that thanks to this practical approach we have seen a significant decrease in the number of incidents of anti-social behaviour.

"Last summer’s weather was particularly bad and may well have had a knock-on effect on crime, particularly anti-social behaviour amongst young people. While we all hope that recent reports of a sunny summer are proven to be correct, I would call upon the police to continue dealing strategically with these crimes and incidents so that we see no increase in figures for this year.

"All of us want to live in an environment where we can enjoy ourselves, relax and be safe. I would also like to take this opportunity to commend those working with youth groups and involved in activities that keep our young people occupied, entertained and safe."
