Infrastructure & Investment

Strategic Investment Board

The Strategic Investment Board was established as a Limited Company in 2003 to address the legacy of under-investment in Northern Ireland’s Public Service Infrastructure.

Its main roles were:

  • To help the Departments’ deliver projects/programmes
  • To build a long-term Investment Strategy for Northern Ireland
  • To foster reform

I was pleased to have be part of the project team which paved the way for the introduction of the Board.

Advisory Council on Infrastructure Investment

This council was a relatively new body that was set up in March 2004 as part of the Government’s new push on Infrastructure provision.

The Council advised the Minister responsible for the Office of the First and Deputy First Minister and the Department of Finance and Personnel on strategy and policy which related to the development and procurement of the administration’s investment in renewing Northern Ireland’s Public Service Infrastructure.

The fundamental concept was that the Council was a wide-ranging social partnership that supplemented the work of the Strategic Investment Board which brought to it perspectives from the public, private, voluntary and community sectors reflecting the views of all the stakeholders on good infrastructure across Northern Ireland.

The Strategic Investment Board and the Advisory Council ceased operating in January 2008.
